In celebration of World Kidney Day, Dr. Asmau Aliyu organized a workshop at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Nasarawa State, Nigeria for resident doctors and nurses in the Pediatrics Department. The workshop was a hands-on learning opportunity that taught resident doctors and nurses peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion. Fourteen doctors and six nurses were in attendance and learned the simple technique that can save lives of children who develop Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and require dialysis.
IPNA applauds the efforts of Dr. Aliyu, who completed the IPNA Fellowship Program in October 2018 at Red Cross War Memorial Childrens Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. “I credit my training with IPNA for this. Before my training, I was unable to manage renal patients, and now I am teaching residents and nurses life-saving interventions for children with renal diseases, particularly AKI.”
